Tutorial Policies and Agreement

About Tutorials

Quidnam Press & Tutorials offers private online tutorials for homeschoolers and other independent learners. Tutorials are one-on-one and available for students age 13 and up.

Rates and Payment

The rate for all tutorials is US$75 per hour. Payment is due in advance, and no lessons can be provided until payment has been received. Payment is handled through PayPal, and credit/debit cards are accepted even if you do not have a PayPal account.

Scheduling

Tutorials typically meet for one hour a week, but I offer flexible scheduling to meet your student’s needs and your budget. I am in the Eastern US Time Zone and offer sessions from 10 AM to 5 PM, Monday-Friday. Limited evening hours are available by special arrangement for those outside the Americas. I am always happy to answer questions between sessions by email. (Contact information will be provided upon registration.)

Scheduling is handled via Acuity, a secure online appointment scheduling app. Acuity automatically adjusts for time zone differences and is linked to PayPal.

Cancellations and Missed Sessions (“No-Shows”)

If you need to cancel a tutoring session, I require a minimum of 24 hours advance notice by email or text. Should I need to cancel, I will offer you the same courtesy. However, I realize that illnesses or other serious problems can come up unexpectedly, so I ask that you contact me by text as soon as possible for same-day cancellations. Please do not use Facebook Messenger to communicate about cancellations.

I am happy to reschedule a cancelled lesson within 30 days but cannot extend credit toward future lessons beyond that time frame.

No credit or refunds will be given for sessions missed without prior notice (“no-shows”). Arriving in the Google Hangout chat 15 minutes or more past our scheduled meeting time will be considered a no-show. Likewise, giving notice of less than 2 hours will be considered a no-show, as it does not leave me enough time to offer the reserved tutoring slot to another student.

Technology

I try to keep my online tutorials as simple and low-tech as possible. Students need an up-to-date computer (minimum 13.3″ screen size) with reliable, high-speed internet access; a headset with a working microphone; and a Google account with access to Google Drive and Google Hangouts. For more on how online tutorials work, see this page.

Interruptions to sessions due to internet connectivity or computer problems do happen on occasion, and I will make sure that students receive the full lesson time due them. Please allow a buffer of 15 minutes after your child’s scheduled lesson time to account for these types of issues. It may also be necessary to reschedule the lesson if the connectivity problem persists beyond a few minutes.

Materials

Parents are responsible for providing curriculum materials for their children, including print or digital copies of any agreed-upon texts, as well as basic reference materials (dictionary, thesaurus, grammar reference, etc.). I may also ask parents to provide me with copies of their students’ history and/or science texts for use in developing exercises and assignments across the curriculum. Please respect copyright, and do not reproduce materials beyond the legal limits for educational use in your locale.

Agreement

By scheduling and paying for a tutorial with me, you are agreeing to abide by these policies. Thank you for your consideration!
